Volunteer with SYE

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with SYE! Our work would not be possible without our committed team of 100+ volunteers, who support our students every step of the way.

SYE accepts two different types of volunteers for each application cycle.

• Volunteer Mentors

Mentors provide guidance to an SYE student throughout the whole application process, often dedicating between 2-4 hours/week to their students. We onboard volunteer mentors by May of each year and provide extensive remote training to newly onboarded mentors.

• Volunteer Essay Editors

Essay Editors provide essay feedback to a small number of students each year, often dedicating a total of 1-10 hours to SYE per application cycle. We onboard volunteer essay editors at any point throughout the year, but essays are often ready for review in late summer and early fall.
